Elevated Porches

Elevated slabs are those that are surrounded by walls and don't sit directly on the ground.  Since the slabs are installed over fill material, they settle rather frequently.  During construction, compaction of the fill soil under elevated slabs is difficult because of fragile walls, time and space constraints.  The diagrams below illustrate the process of elevated slab settlement, and how Concrete Jack's process can help fix the problem.

During construction, the area inside the porch walls is filled with soil, but it is difficult to compact this soil because of fragile walls, time and space constraints.  When the concrete is poured, it is poured right on top of the fill material.

Over time, the fill material settles naturally.  The slab is held up by friction against the surrounding walls, and, if present, ledges around some of the perimeter.

Eventually, the weight of the slab overcomes the friction that is holding the slab up.  The slab drops down, usually with one edge or corner dropping the most, and the opposite edge or corner raising up in a teeter-tottering action.

Concrete Jack's skilled technicians drill holes through the top of the porch and inject our special custom grout mix under the slab to fill any voids and then raise and support it to its original level.  If slabs have teeter-tottered during the settlement process, we find that the vast majority of the time, the elevated corners of the slab drop to within one quarter inch of their original level.
